16 Apr THE DENNIS’
When The Dennis’ started their journey in foster care they were very selective in the children they would consider. Foster care and children were new to them as they did not have any children of our own. Therefore, they were a little apprehensive of what they could take on. After their first placement was reunified they were contacted about taking on a little boy who had some pretty significant medical needs and who was looking for an adoptive family. They again were uncertain because they did not know if they could handle it. They have a background in Special Education and taught medically fragile children, so they knew what their future could look like with a child with special needs. With that in mind they also knew this was a child who needed a family and to be loved, so they began to pray and do weekend visits with him. Not long after the visits they knew they wanted to welcome him into their home, so they took a leap of faith and became his adoptive placement. He had a lot of appointments and therapy weekly. It was a lot at first, but they found their way into a routine and things got easier. They are happy to say that he is now off of his feeding tube, testing out of therapy, running around like a rambunctious 2-year-old, and most importantly, their favorite part, he is their son!! The Dennis’love this little boy more than they could have ever imagined. They are so happy that they considered taking a child with medical needs and would challenge anyone to search their hearts and consider doing the same.
