14 Apr CORLISS BRYANT
As one of our very first foster parents, Corliss continues to be such a blessing to the children who are placed in her home. She typically fosters teen boys, and continues to do an amazing job guiding them towards success in school and at home. Corliss believes that although some foster children may seem challenging on paper, their behavior can change when given the right environment—one that promotes structure, consistency, and respect. Corliss is always ready to give foster children a chance to change, grow, and thrive. The foster children who have lived with Corliss over the years have made great strides. Not only does she encourage their interests and help them think about career paths, but she also prepares them for adulthood by letting them shop for groceries, cook meals, and care for their clothes.
Currently, Corliss has three foster boys in her home, ranging in age from 10-17. The boys love and respect Corliss, and truly enjoy being part of her family. She treats each child with respect, and in return, the boys learn that they can count on her in all situations. Corliss makes sure that all the children’s needs are met, whether it be tutoring, medical care, or any other need. This month, Corliss has gone over and beyond in providing educational advocacy for her foster children. She has arranged tutoring for all of her boys, and even advocated for one of her boys not to be suspended from school after a recent incident. Because of her actions, the boy was allowed to remain in school.
Corliss has attended almost every support group meeting this year, where she offers valuable insight to her fellow foster parents. She has more than enough training hours, but continues to attend trainings in order to offer support to others.
