Information for Foster Parents

The Bloom Closet exists to provide vital support to foster children and the families who care for them.  Here is a list of questions you might have in regards to this service. For more information,  please call 770-461-7020.

Who is eligible to obtain free clothing and supplies at The Bloom Closet?  

All Georgia foster child living in DFCS custody are eligible to “shop” in The Bloom Closet. This includes children living in DFCS approved relative placement homes and grandchildren placed into DFCS approved grandparent homes. This also includes individuals over the age of 18 who have signed themselves back into DFCS custody.

 

What kind of documentation is needed? 

We require a placement letter from the Department of Family & Children’s Services or a referral letter from your caseworker showing that the child you are shopping for is in your care.  Please bring your letter with you to your appointment.

 

How often can my foster child visit The Bloom Closet?

Foster children can receive clothing on a quarterly basis or after a growth spurt.

 

Do I need an appointment?

Please call 770-461-7020 to schedule an appointment to shop.  We want to make sure that your foster child gets everything he or she needs by providing you with individualized attention.  Please make every attempt to honor your appointment time.  If  you are unable to make your appointment, we appreciate 24 hours notification.

 

What are your hours?

                     Monday through Saturday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm

                     Closed Sunday

 

 What Items are available?

*Sizes range from newborn through teen

How many items can a child have?

Each child receives a week’s supply of clothing that includes a package of new socks and underwear and a pair of pajamas, 1-2 pairs of shoes depending on supply, and 3 toys.  The number of other items given out such as toiletries and school supplies varies according to the child’s need and the supply available.

 

What is your return or exchange policy? 

Any item can be exchanged for a different size or style within 10 days of visiting the closet.

 

What if a child leaves my home?

Items at The Bloom Closet are intended to be used by the foster child and are not intended for resale.  Any item given to a child by The Bloom Closet should remain with the child in the event the child leaves your home.  Please return unused items to The Bloom Closet if the child leaves your home within 72 hours of placement.  We would appreciate it if you could return larger items such as baby swings, cribs or toys to The Bloom Closet when they are no longer used.  That way, we can pass them along to another child in need!
